Frequently Asked Questions – Combat

Frequently Asked Questions – Combat is where you will find answers to some questions asked the most or you can contact me for help.

Do I need a background in Boxing or Martial Arts to do this class?

No, you will learn everything you need to know throughout the class or in my technique videos. We do use real moves from Boxing, Karate, Maui Thai, and Kick Boxing, but at the end of the day, its just a fitness class. You are welcome to learn the moves in more depth, but it is not necessary in order to enjoy the class. You just need to imagine one person (it can be me if you like) and use them as target practice.

I can’t kick very high, is that ok?

Absolutely. Have you ever hit your shin on something? Do you remember how much it hurt? How do you think a kick to the shin will feel? Someone once said to me “you don’t need to kick a face, just like you would not reach down to punch a toe”. We have hands and elbows to hit the upper body, feet can hit anywhere in the lower body. Listen to your body and do not push it past it’s limits, or you may cause injury.

Do I need much space to do this class?

You will need enough space to be able to kick in all directions. But if you are unable to travel, you do not have to as you can pulse on the spot instead. Please make sure that your pets and family members are out of the way, so you do not cause them harm.

I don’t have very good coordination, is this class for me?

Yes, it is. There is some coordination needed in combat, but you will be in the comfort of your own home where no one can see you. It doesn’t matter if you are off the beat, or if you need to take it slower, you do you and you will still get a great workout. The more you do it, the easier it will get and you will find yourself improving your coordination over time.

What equipment will I need?

You will need a drink so you can keep hydrated throughout the class as you can become very sweaty and a mat for the floor work.  No other equipment is needed.

I have an injury / medical condition, can I still take part?

Please seek medical advice before attempting the Combat programs as you would not want to aggravate the injury / medical condition and make it worse.
